Busy Bee

Today was a phenomenal day for my shop. One customer in PA placed a huge order; 2 Herb Crow Ladye dolls, 4 large sunflower pokes, 4 small sunflower pokes, a hand turned wooden bowl, and a prim stitchery peg hanger. I also shipped another crow out to WA. Phew! I have been working on more primitive tulips, crow pokes, and another crow doll. I also finished the 2 big sunflowers in the photo for my IG friend Mary.

I just ate dinner, and soon I’ll be getting back to work. It’s kinda funny, I tell my husband all the time that my job is also my entertainment. And it really is! I’m most content when I’m creating.

Comfort Food

My instant pot has gotten a workout lately! Which is funny, because initially it sat in the box for the longest time and I couldn’t imagine it becoming more than another dust collector. I started to really use it several weeks ago. I love that I can come up with a meal idea and have it completely done within 45 minutes, tops.

Yesterday I wanted to make a good lunch for my husband while he was stuck in zoom meetings. At 10:30 a.m. I started throwing things into the pot. It turned into this Mexican soup kind of concoction from whatever I had on hand; ground turkey, onions, sweet peppers, tomatoes, frozen corn, a tiny bit of salsa, a splash of V8, water, cumin, and chili powder. I also added some penne pasta and a can of black beans. It was delicious! 20 min of prep and 5 minutes cooking time.

Pumpkin Fabric!

Sometimes you need some new fabric for a little inspiration, and I found just the bundle! How gorgeous is this? I busted right into it the minute I got it, and whipped up a dress for a crow using the fat quarter on the right. I’ll post photos this afternoon, when I list the doll on etsy. I am just over the moon for it! I love autumn colors year-round.

If you’re wanting some for yourself, this is the seller’s shop:

The Productive Day That Started at 4am

I jumped out of bed this morning at dark o’ thirty, quickly started a pot of coffee, and got to work. I was eager to finish this primitive folk art Angel. At dusk last night, she was nearly complete. She just needed limbs. I’d begged my husband to go out into the yard to find me some twigs for her arms and legs. We promptly baked ’em to kill any critters inside. Then I ran out of steam and went to bed early.. intent on finishing her when I woke.

I started this item, believing it would be a sure sale. But then I pondered how to package it for shipping. There’s a myriad of issues; the wings are wider than any boxes I have, the halo needs protecting, and the Sweet Annie may get crushed. I need to buy some packaging. I think she came out beautiful, though!

My First Post From the Frozen Tundra

Thank you for stopping by to see what I’ve got going on today. It’s been many years since I’ve blogged, but they seem to be making a comeback. And sometimes, 130 characters or less is just not enough.

I plan to post what I cook, things I sew, and maybe tutorials on primitive folk art items. I’ll definitely write about my creative process and what it’s done to change my life. But first, more coffee. It’s cold here in Maine, and snowy. I’ve got chickens to tend and packages to ship. I wish you all a cozy, safe weekend.
